Meet Lesley Hughes, the Liberal candidate who thinks 9/11 was an inside job posted by NP
The media are attacking Conservative MP Lee Richardson for making anti-immigrant remarks, while at the same time downplaying Lesley Hughes's anti-Jewish comments.
Ms. Hughes said that Jews vacated the twin towers a few weeks before the 9/11 attacks -- regurgitating a long-standing anti-Semitic myth. Yet once exposed, so far she has refused to retract her comments.
On the CBC National last night, that anti-Conservative news team sent attack dog Paul Hunter to cover the Richardson gaffe (replete with sound clips of opponents attacking him). Yet host Peter Mansbridge only mentioned Lesley Hughes in passing. (Note that she is a former CBC radio host and reporter!)
Today's National Post, though, devoted two stories:

Consider this left-wing piece, taken from the CBC web page, called "Fringe 2003". The left-wing writer praises Hughes:
Bloomberg's Radio is a passionate look at the increasingly corporate world of media. Journalist Lesley Hughes discusses her story as a young writer whose eyes eventually opened to the world of the left. Once this occurred she felt compelled to write about corporate greed, American influence and other topics that the editors at right wing newspapers would sweat over.

No wonder the liberal media (like the CBC) will lean over backwards to protect this left-wing nutbar.
Here is her 9/11 rantings, if anyone wants to read them:

Meet Lesley Hughes, the Liberal candidate who thinks 9/11 was an inside job

What's worse than a Liberal candidate who compares Stephen Harper to Hitler? How about a Liberal candidate who believes 9/11 was an inside job.
Meet Lesley Hughes, mother, writer, Liberal candidate for Kildonan-St. Paul, conspiracy theorist. As first noted by blogger Jay Currie, Hughes has a lot of really interesting opinions on the Sept. 11 attacks -- including her belief that there may have been "CIA foreknowledge and complicity of highly placed officials in the U.S. government around the attacks on the World Trade Center Sept. 11." Riffing on the myth of the 4,000 Jews who didn't show up to work on 9/11, she writes that "Israeli businesses, which had offices in the Towers, vacated the premises a week before the attacks, breaking their lease to do it." She also has weird theories about why NATO is fighting in Afghanistan, most of them revolving around the idea that the United States is collaborating with the Taliban in selling drugs.
Nor is Hughes shy about her involvement in what is called the 9/11 "Truth Movement." Last year, when Barrie Zwicker and some other nutbars came to Winnipeg to proselytize their toxic theories, she was at the podium as a "panelist."
If Stéphane Dion doesn't cut Hughes loose, it will be a disgrace to the Liberal Party. It will also destroy any credibility he has when he slams Conservatives for saying things that, all things considered, are far less outrageous.
