After sending signals that he may have been moving away from Jean Chrétien's centrist policy on the Arab-Israeli conflict, Paul Martin has reasserted traditional Canadian neutrality.

The Prime Minister reiterated the principle of negotiations between Arabs and Israelis: "Part of that negotiated settlement has got to be dealing with such issues as the right of return." "The refugees have got to be dealt with fairly." And "there has to be compensation."

If we had any hope that Paul Martin may have had a moral compass, those hopes are rapidly fading. Haroon Siddiqui writing in the Toronto Star about Sharon, whose lifelong philosophy has been to grind the Palestinians into abject surrender without one single mention of Palestinian terrorism, surely the dominant feature of events in the Middle East.

With anti-Israel propogandists like Siddiqui writing for the nation's largest newspaper and our Prime Minister chosing neutrality, as his earlier predecessor, Mackenzie King, did between the Jews and the Nazis, does Canada have any moral credibility?
