OTTAWA, ON Carolyn Parrish, Member of Parliament for Mississauga Centre, strongly condemns the assassination of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in Gaza City.
"This brutal, violent and provocative murder, perpetrated by the government of Israel, flies in the face of international law and human decency. It will do nothing to move the peace agenda forward. In fact, it will result in extremist reactions, which will only bring more death and destruction to both sides of the conflict. Under no circumstances can this act of violence be rationalized, justified or condoned by any civilized nation.
Summary execution of an unarmed, disabled cleric shows total disregard for civil law and basic human rights.
Slobodan Milosevic has been granted his day in court. Saddam Hussein was not executed in his spider hole. Civilized people must employ civilized processes. Anything else is anarchy."
